Lords Cricket Ground

With 4 years having lapsed since the last permanent signage rebrand, the MCC, owners of the Lords Cricket Ground, commissioned Icon to carry out a full signage audit to document every single sign thoughout the site, recording dimensions, quantities and condition, with a view to overhauling the signage and delivering a consistent look across the ground.

Icon has worked with Lords ad-hoc for many years, and now has official supplier status. Icon worked on the project with the Lord's Brand Manager, David Botha, and using the results of the audit, were able to produce a signage upgrade plan with recommendations including cost implications for the client to address and make informed decisions about action to be taken.

At regular working meetings with the client, it was established what was deemed as signage that required urgent replacement and those signs that needed to be changed, but with less urgency attached.

The project was split into phases with the client setting installation deadlines for each phase. Phase 1 was required before the Test Match against New Zealand, with Phase 2 installed before the Test Match against South Africa. Both deadlines were tight but nonetheless met without any disruption to the venue come match days.

The signage installed was a mixture of stove enamelled finished aluminium, dibond and brass, as advised by Icon depending on the location and purpose of the signage.

Lord's now has an uniformed appearance of signage throughout the ground presenting the brand consistently throughout. The design of the signage maintains some of the traditional aspects associated with this historic ground, whilst modernising it to cater for today's game.

The Lord's permanent signage rebrand project was delivered separately but in parallel to Icon's contract to produce and install temporary branding and signage for all domestic and international cricket competitions in UK.
